Luiz like a 'dying swan': Fergie

David Luiz

Sir Alex Ferguson has condemned Chelsea defender David Luiz for acting like a "dying swan" in the final stages of Chelsea's 1-0 over Manchester United.

Moments after Juan Mata's winner for the Blues in their Barclays Premier League clash on Monday morning (EST), Rafael da Silva was given his marching order by Howard Webb for retaliating against Luiz.

But Luiz, who was sprawling across the turf, was caught on camera laughing as he remained on the ground while Webb brandished a red to the United defender.

Luiz: from sublime to ridiculous. Watch the incident in the video above, which includes Luiz's ridiculously good strike on Friday in the Europa League.

Ferguson, who admitted Chelsea were the better side on the day, was furious with the incident.

"Rafael retaliates but Luiz rolls about like a dying swan and that convinces the referee. Luiz was smiling, it’s bad," Ferguson said.

"What kind of professional is that?

"The ref has been bought by the fact Luiz is rolling about. But whether the ref will doing anything about it, I doubt it very much.

"Luiz rolled about. You see that with these European, foreign and South American players.

"That always happens, the player that retaliates gets the heavier penalty.

"It was quite clear Luiz has elbowed him twice. It was rash what Rafael did. He is a young lad, he should know better, but retaliation never works.

"I wouldn’t say it was violent conduct. The referee hasn’t even seen it at all.

"He has gone with the fact Luiz has rolled around on the floor and that has convinced him it is a red card."

Earlier, Ferguson told Sky Sports that Rafael's retaliation was sparked by Luiz's constant use of his elbows in tussles.

"It was the elbows," Sir Alex told Sky Sports. "He retaliated. That's always happened. The player that retaliates always gets the bigger penalty.

"It was quite clear that Luiz has elbowed him twice actually and it's rash what he’s doing. He's a young lad and he should know better that retaliation never works."

Chelsea interim boss Rafa Benitez said: "I didn't see the incident or replays. I am always trying to enjoy if we win, you can change nothing if you complain when you lose.

"I haven't seen it and I will not say too much. There are 200 incidents each weekend in the league."
