Arsenal are lining up a shock move for Petr Cech should the Blues elevate the 30-year-old's heir apparent to their starting line-up next season, England's Daily Mail reports.

The Blues have talented shot stopper Thibault Courtois on loan at Athletico Madrid and speculation is growing that the Belgian could replace Cech between the sticks from next season.

If that eventuates, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger - who has lost patience with Wojciech Szczesny - is ready to make an ambitious play for Cech.

The Blues would be hesitant to sell their long-term 'keeper to a direct Barclays Premier League rival, but Cech has plenty of years left in him and would unlikely settle for a place on the European Champions’ bench.

The other men at the top of Wenger’s wishlist are Pepe Reina, Asmir Begovic, Victor Valdes, Rene Adler and Michel Vorm.

Cech and his Chelsea defence are equal second for clean sheets in the EPL this season and only Manchester City have shipped less goals than them.

Originally slated as the man to rid Arsenal of their defensive woes, several sub-par performances have seen Szczesny dropped for Lukasz Fabianski, the Pole's solid performances likely to give him an extended run between the sticks.

Szczesny recently told Polish paper Gazeta Wyborcza: "I am too happy [here] to go somewhere else. I believe in the philosophy of the club and that Arsenal will start to win again. I have a debt to pay here for the club. I do not want to go anywhere else."

"As long as they want me here, there is no “somewhere else. I have a contract until June 2015."
